Photoelastic Analysis of Stress Distributions on the Supporting Structure According to the Retentive Designs of Currently Used Endodontic Posts and the Presence of Cement

Abstract
4-Different designs of post, Para-Post Plus system, Sankin screw post, Para-Post system, RVS Screw post system, direct embedding or cementation with the 4-Meta resin cement. The purpose of this study was to observe the stress distribution of the
different designs of posts and the effect of cement using photoelastic stress analysis.
@ES The results were as followed.
@EN 1. In group 2 & 4 using post cementation with RVS system, stress was developed at the apical portion. In other systems, stress was not developed during predrilling, drilling and post insertion.
2. All the tested post designs in this experiment demonstrated the stress concentration phenomena at the apical portion under loading.
3. While the patterns of stress concentration observed at the apical portion of Para-Post, Para-Post Plus and Sankin post in group 2 were similar, severe stress concentration was demonstrated in RVS system.
4. In group 1, 4 types of tested posts showed almost the same patterns of stress concentration.
5. In group 3, there was the stress concentration at the cervical and apical portion. Under the angulated direction hand, stress concentration developed on the angulated portion of the cervical and the apical portion.
6. The specimens of group 4 showed greater stress concentration at the apical and cervical portion than that of group 3, where PVS specimen of group 4 especially showed severe stress concentration at the apical portion.
7. Overall patterns of stress distribution in all the treated 4 post types were shown to be similar, but the threaded design of RVS system designed for better mechanical retention showed relatively higher stress concentration at the apical
portion.
